March 2018 Update

Well it's been a busy 6 months.  Since Hurricane Irma left town we've been working at getting all the resulting repairs completed. We now have a new roof, new garage door, some screens around the pool were replaced and some minor interior repairs are still ongoing, but luckily no disruption to vacations has occurred!

We took a week this month to head to Florida for a quick trip. As usual we did some refreshing and updating, here's a little overview!

Master bathroom said good-bye to the wallpaper border and the paint got at refresh!

In addition to the new refrigerator added in the summer, a new microwave joined the team this trip. We also added a new knife block and toaster.

A new area rug for relaxing in the great room with your family and friends.

We said good-bye to one of our old umbrella strollers and said hello to this cutie!

Visiting the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot is one of our favourite things to do. So in keeping with our theme (Mickey's Garden Villa of course), we added this beautiful poster.

As a firm believer in the little touches, we thought positive affirmations for our guests were in order.

Lots of other little things were accomplished as well: new sheets, paint touch ups, and other routine maintenance.  We hope that people continue to visit and enjoy! We look forward to welcoming returning guests and getting to know new ones.

Family, Flexibility and Friends

It's been a while since I sat down to write a new post.  I struggled with what to write, even I'm getting bored with my boring updates. Really I'm just telling you that we're still waiting, which by the way we're still doing.

So today I thought about talking about why we're excited about having a vacation home. Since we will be renting the house out as much as we can, we'll be able to decide last minute to take advantage of an unrented week here or there. We'll have to be flexible but if I get sunshine and theme park fun I can do it. Granted the times may be in the off season  but that's okay with us.

Having the house will also allow our families the opportunity to vacation.  I have a younger sibling who has Cerebral Palsy and the house offers several great features that will make vacationing for my family easier. My brother reacts horribly to mosquito bites and Florida's hot weather makes for lots of those pests.  The pool and deck at the house are enclosed with a fine mesh that will keep pests at bay.  Secondly, because the house is a bungalow there are no steps that need to be negotiated.  Another plus is that both master bedrooms have walk in showers that make for more accessible showering. I am going to try and locate a health care supply company that rents shower chairs so anyone can get one to use if their family member requires.  (The second master has a large well laid out walk in shower, that's my Occupational Therapist comment, LOL). Additionally because we have family in different areas of the country it can also serve a a meeting place that we can meet and vacation together.

In the past we've often vacationed with friends, most recently we went on a houseboat. It's always a lot of fun, but having the house will give us the space to spread out if we've got more than one family with kids.  It's really cold here today in southern Ontario and I'd like some sunshine and warm weather soon. Hopefully we'll get a chance soon. Have a great day and stay warm wherever you are!
